xROVER Participation & Access Review™

Participation doesn’t stop when everyday mobility becomes difficult.

The xROVER Participation & Access Review™ is a personalized professional service designed to help families and supporting professionals better understand mobility needs across specific school, community, recreational, and outdoor activities.

We review the individual’s current mobility, participation goals, planned activities, environments, terrain, distances, and support needs — then evaluate how an xROVER may help support participation when walking or everyday mobility equipment alone may not be enough.

The service includes an individualized case review, remote consultation with xROVER USA, and a written xROVER Participation & Access Summary™ with practical equipment and participation considerations.

PARTICIPATION IS ABOUT MORE THAN GETTING FROM A TO B.

Mobility needs can change with the environment.

A person who walks independently or with assistance at home, at school, or across shorter distances may experience very different challenges during a field trip, community event, outdoor activity, park visit, longer excursion, or uneven terrain.

The xROVER Participation & Access Review™ looks beyond the simple question of whether someone “can walk.”

Instead, we consider the person, activity, environment, distance, terrain, participation goals, and available mobility support together.

The goal is to better understand where mobility challenges may limit participation — and whether an xROVER may provide practical adaptive mobility support for those situations.

WHAT WE REVIEW

1. THE PERSON & CURRENT MOBILITY

We begin with the individual — not the equipment.

Depending on the situation, we may review:

  • Age, height, and weight

  • Current mobility

  • Walking ability and limitations

  • Current mobility equipment

  • Endurance and fatigue considerations

  • Basic positioning and support information

  • Transfers and assistance, when relevant

  • Existing equipment and accessories

  • Information provided by the family

  • Information provided by supporting professionals, when available

The purpose is to understand how the individual currently moves and where additional mobility support may help maintain participation.

2. PARTICIPATION GOALS

What does the person want or need to participate in?

Participation goals may involve:

  • School field trips

  • Outdoor school activities

  • Camps

  • Parks

  • Zoos

  • Museums and larger venues

  • Community events

  • Family outings

  • Adaptive recreation

  • Sporting events

  • Trails and nature activities

  • Longer excursions

  • Travel-related activities

  • Other real-world environments where mobility may become challenging

The goal is not simply getting from one place to another.

The goal is participation.

3. ENVIRONMENT & MOBILITY DEMANDS

The same person may have very different mobility needs depending on the environment.

We consider the real-world situations where participation may become more difficult, including:

  • Longer distances

  • Uneven surfaces

  • Grass

  • Gravel

  • Trails

  • Hills

  • Outdoor terrain

  • Large venues

  • Crowded environments

  • Limited opportunities for rest

  • Extended periods away from home

  • Mixed walking and riding situations

  • Transportation and storage considerations

Understanding the environment helps us evaluate the difference between everyday mobility and the additional support that may be useful during specific activities.

4. WALKING + ADAPTIVE MOBILITY

Mobility does not always have to mean choosing between walking and riding.

For some individuals, walking may work well for part of an activity while additional mobility support becomes helpful as distance, fatigue, terrain, time, or environmental demands increase.

The xROVER Participation & Access Review™ can help explore how walking and adaptive mobility may work together as part of a broader participation strategy.

Walk when walking works. Ride when support helps. Keep participating.

5. xROVER APPLICATION

Based on the information provided, we consider whether and how an xROVER may support the identified participation goals.

This may include consideration of:

  • Appropriate xROVER size

  • Potential configuration

  • Harness and positioning components

  • Relevant accessories

  • Walking + riding strategies

  • Terrain and environmental use

  • Transportation considerations

  • Outdoor and community applications

  • Practical equipment considerations

  • Questions that may need to be discussed with the family or supporting professionals

The objective is not simply to recommend equipment.

It is to consider how adaptive mobility equipment may support participation in the specific environments and activities that matter to the individual.
